Collections are named after the family that currently holds a given set of physical materials relating to the family. These names are listed in full in the TM Database but are abbreviated here as either acronyms or via a combination of the first initial, any middle initials, and last name unless a full generation beyond the one in question has passed away.
A record of who has held materials can thus generally be reconstructed. For instance, the TMM & FRA Collection is currently held by Tyler Miller but was previously held by other family members so the collection tree would be as follows:
