This project started small. Handwritten family trees on note-pads hastily constructed to try to gain a better perspective of who the people at thanksgiving, or in photos, or at family reunions actually were. At some later date a photocopy version of J. [James] Carson Miller’s collected four volume work, Jacob Miller of 1748: His Descendants and Connections, Parts 1-4, Moores Store, VA, (1936, 1937, 1938, 1939) came into my father’s and then my possession and sat idle on the shelf for at least a decade or two before being used as the initial basis for this work.

The original goal once this became a more serious interest was to digitize all four volumes of the J. Carson Miller. To date this task stands around 90% complete – with about half of the fourth volume still needing to be entered (as of December, 2019).

In addition to the J. Carson Miller, other interests and avenues fo exploration arose including chancery and census records, birth, marriage, and death certificates, deeds, and other similar documents. It became more important to construct a picture of who our immediate forebears actually were, as opposed to simply a name and some dates.

The project has also grown into preservation of old family documents from Lemuel David Miller and Carrie Berta Caricofe handed down through the Leon Miller branch. These documents will be presented in the LDM & CBC Collection and uploaded as they are processed physically and digitized.

Additionally, as this information is entered into the database it can then be “mined” for information using data analysis techniques to additional insight into trends and perspectives that might otherwise not be apparent. These analyses will be presented in the Analysis tab.
