TM Note - Context

The date and location of the religion in this context reference the approximate date that he "joined" with the Brethren church based on the fact that it happened before the civil war but likely when he was an adult given the particular style of adult-baptism practiced by the Brethren. Also, the location is assumed as Rockingham County was his primary residence - but not given more specifically as i am unsure where he would have been at that time.

Location inferred, possible he was born in Maryland before emigration to Virginia.

It is important to note that this location is in modern-day Shenandoah County, which at the time would have been a part of Augusta County.

The current Jacob Miller House dates to 1805 and likely replaced a prior, less permanent older version. The 1805 house is still standing and occupied. The exact modern address is 4506 Flat Rock Road, Quicksburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia, U.S.A.

TM Note - Detail about Jacob Miller Home 2

The current Jacob Miller House dates to 1805 and likely replaced a prior, less permanent older version. The 1805 house is still standing and occupied. The exact modern address is 4506 Flat Rock Road, Quicksburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia, U.S.A.

It is important to note that this location is in modern-day Shenandoah County, which at the time would have been a part of Augusta County.

Additionally, it is unlikely that the bricks used to construct this house were made by enslaved peoples, as was common in eastern Virginia and elsewhere in the Shenandoah Valley, as Jacob was a member of the Brethren faith. It is more likely that these bricks came from family or Brethren community brickworks.

"Up to this time (Nov., 1936), we ahve been unable to find who Jacob Miller married for his first wife. He refers to his "wfie" and his "sadi wife" in his will, but he does not mention her name. This is undoubtedly his second wife, and from Franklin Keagy's History of the Kagy Family we learn that Jacob Miller married Frances Kagey, the widow of Rudolph Kagey. Her three daughters, Elizabeth, Mary and Catharine seem to have lived with Jacob Miller and are mentioned in his will. Frances Kagey's maiden name was Frances Bargelbaugh. She came from Germany when she was fourteen years old. In Rupp's 30,000 names of emigrants we are told that John Jost Birkcelbach came to this country from Rotterdam October 29, 1770. Franklin Keagy says: "He is confidently believed to be the parent of Frances Birckelbach, who became the wife of Rudolph Kagey."

Frances Birckelbach (or Bargelbaugh) must have married Jacob Miller about 1796, as we are tol that her youngest daughter, Catharine, was three years old at the time her mother married Jacob Miller.
